Hi there, just struggling a bit with how to make these solutions for a JB team…their UP is “Because the mission to Moon, Mars and beyond the AIs were constantly shutting down while constructing the colony on Mars how might we improve the systems within the mission so that the colony will be successful in 2042 and beyond?”
Which I thought was okay, however their solutions are all very broad and random – because the word ‘systems’ is quite broad, they didn’t specify which type of system. So they have solutions like a water filter device, a communication device to help with homesickness, a radiation device etc. So finding it a bit difficult to mark! Any ideas?

Also essentially none of the solutions mention the AI even though they speak about it in the UP!

A common technique, the scatter gun.
They lose focus points because they have not specified what systems.
They can have solutions that solve the UP even though it is poorly written. Scratch below a surface a little and you will find a lot of duplicates.
They need to clarify their logic with specific words in the UP. There is no real connection between the CP and KVP. Solutions seem to be flavoured about the manned mission itself so can get an R if they solve it. Perhaps a rewrite of their UP based on the majority of what they meant in the solutions to show them what needs to happen.

Yes very true, thank you! I am also struggling in the sense that they’ve used the word “improve”, however most of the solutions involve creating something brand new which to me isn’t improving the systems, but creating new “better” ones? This booklet has been a tough nut to crack!

Since theyre JBs I wouldnt be too harsh. But they do need to be reminded that we cannot seek clarification from them. It needs to be all in their words and understandable. Dont say one thing and go on to mean another.

Although improving a system could certainly be interpreted as replacing it with a better one.
You can set fire to the base of a tree to fell it. It is better to use a stone axe. It is even better to use a steel axe. Better still; a saw.
