Scenario Performance

Future images play a significant role in our lives. Future Problem Solving helps students to enlarge, enrich, and make more accurate their images of the future.

Storytelling

Scenario Performance is an exciting new component in the programme, designed for creative students who like to tell, rather than write, their visions of the future. Scenario Performance (ScP) was designed by FPSP Australia to develop and sustain the oral tradition of storytelling. ScP is ideally suited to students who show thinking abilities in different ways - particularly for those whose cultural heritage and/or learning styles lean towards oral communication. It can also be ideal for developing the thinking skills of twice-exceptional students. ScP is about storytelling, as opposed to story writing, using a story outline that has been developed in a creative and entertaining manner by the student prior to the performance. Rather than the stories being written, they are told or performed.

In Scenario Performance, students use the years Global Issues Problem Solving topics as the basis for their ideas. From these topics, they choose one that interests them, think about how it might have changed twenty years into the future, and then create their story. The challenge is for students to create a story of between 4-5 minutes duration, set at least 20 years in the future, based around the issues underlying any one of the year's topics. The story shouldn't be written out on full as the presentation should be natural and, in part at least, spontaneous.

ScP Competition

Submission will take the form of a video link e.g. YouTube of the student delivering an oral telling of their story, undertaken in one take without the use of any props or aids, beyond the use of their voice. The use of any props or aids (including notes), beyond the use of their voice and hand gestures, is forbidden, although objects may be used to help create the background setting in which their story will be told.

Highly placed performances may be invited to attend the national finals.
